Teaching

Evan has been teaching private lessons and workshops for 5 years and currently teaches mandolin, guitar and lectures at Leeds College of Music. He uses his experience performing bluegrass and traditional folk to inform his professional teaching of mandolin, guitar, tenor banjo and 5-string banjo.

Evan's bespoke tuition places an emphasis on developing fretboard knowledge, improving listening skills, improvisation/creativity and building technique/repertoire from any style of music.

In addition to teaching time, Evan offers to:

• Take lesson diaries to ensure progress.

• Notate any music taught in the lessons if you desire.

• Study any piece of music you wish to learn.

Private teaching primarily takes place in a comfortable well-lit music room in Woodhouse, Leeds. Evan regularly performs in London and Newcastle at which time, lessons could be arranged in those areas.

Evan regularly teaches group workshops and has gained the skills to provide exciting, accessible classes with equal attention to each member of the group.

Evan has taught at renowned bluegrass music camp Sore Fingers Summer Schools and continues to work as part of their team, delivering quality assistance for scratch band sessions. As well as teaching mandolin workshops for several bluegrass festivals over the years, Evan has also led mixed-instrument tune and song classes during his teaching at Leeds College of Music.
